Culture Crawl: Lake Charles, Louisiana
For years, I thought of Lake Charles as a place to stop on the road to New Orleans. I'd never considered visiting.
My best friend's sister was kind enough to give her a three night stay at Lake Charles's Golden Nugget Casino and Resort. My best friend was kind enough to invite me!
The resort has enough on-site that you don't really need to leave, but I wanted to take in the culture of the city because I'd never spent more than a few hours in Lake Charles, and that was once for a step show in college.
In addition to eating my weight in crawfish from Steamboat Bill's, we explored the Brimstone Historical Society to learn more about the city's history.

Read some wild history about the city and the natives that were there before settlers.
Even though I was enjoying a vacation, I still had some work to do, so I spent a morning at Stellar Beans downtown.

We enjoyed a few more sites, the casino, and the pool, but a culture crawl isn't complete without a trip to a bookstore. Lake Charles is a college town, so there weren't a lot of independently owned bookstores to choose from, but I found the Book Exchange on my way out of the city!
Thank you, Lake Charles, for your hospitality!
