Melody K. Gerard

Dallas native, I graduated from the University of Houston and decided to make Houston home. I began my career as an educator by teaching middle school English. For 11 years, I taught Houston's youth how to read deeply, write effectively, and have fun while doing it.

In 2015, my audience switched to teachers and leaders. I am an instructional coach and curriculum writer for the largest school district in Texas. In addition to writing  curriculum and assessments, I write and facilitate training sessions and coach English teachers and departments in best practices for English instruction. But only from 8-5...

I own Harmony Professional Editing, providing services that range from basic copyediting to developmental writing. Additionally, I provide writing workshops for writers and bloggers.

I am also co-owner of For the Culture Literacy Development, a professional development company dedicated to teaching and reinforcing best practices in literacy and instruction using texts from marginalized people. We conduct workshops, training sessions, and you can also find us presenting at different workshops.
